Kremenchutska HPS is the 3-rd stage of the cascade of HPSs located on the river of Dnieper.

Kremenchutska HPS has been under operation since 1959, when the 1st hydropower unit became operational. The final 12th hydropower unit of Kremenchutska HPS was put into service in 1960.

The water reservoir of Kremenchutska HPS is one of the largest in Ukraine. It is of multiyear regulation. Area of watertable of the reservoir amounts to 2250 km2. Total volume of the reservoir is 13.52 km3, its useful volume totals to 8.97 km3.

Facilities of Kremenchutska HPS comprises the building of HPS, concrete spillway dam adjoining to building, earth-fill dams, the lock, outdoor switch-gears with voltage of 330 kV and 154 kV.

Total extent of hydro facilities of Kremenchutska HPS is 12.4 km, their throughput - 21000 m3 of water per second.

Kremenchutska HPS

At Kremenchutska HPS there installed 12 vertical hydro power units with total installed capacity of 625 MW.

Turbines installed at hydropower units of Kremenchutska HPS are of propeller type with capacity of 58 MW under pressure of 14.2 m. The turbines are produced by Turboatom JSC (Kharkiv, Ukraine).

Generators are of umbrella type with capacity of 57.2 MW and voltage of 13.8 kV, produced by Electrovazhmash (Kharkiv, Ukraine).

The building of HPS is without machine room. It consists contractually of the six aggregated units by 2 hydropower units in each aggregated unit and of the unit of assembly site. At Kremenchutska HPS turbine room acts as a machine room. Each aggregate is covered with removable cover.

Electric circuit is composed into four aggregated units consisting of the three generators and one transformer each. Electricity output is performed through three electricity transmission lines with voltage of 330 kV and seven electricity transmission lines with voltage of 154 kV.

Average annual electricity output of Kremenchutska HPS amounts to 1506 mln kWh under pressure of 14.2 m.

Staff of Kremenchutska HPS amounted to 275 people as on January 1, 2001.

Currently, reconstruction of basic and auxiliary equipment at Kremenchutska HPS according to the partly financed by the World Bank Project of rehabilitation of hydropower stations owned by Dniprogidroenego is underway.
