Kanivska HPS is the 2nd stage of the cascade of HPSs located on the river of Dnieper. Facilities of Kanivska HPS have been under operation since 1972 when the first hydropower unit of the station came into service. The last 24th hydropower unit of Kanivska HPS became operational in May 1975. The reservoir of Kanivska HPS is of daily regulation with large protection facilities. Area of watertable of the reservoir is 642 km2. Total volume of the reservoir is 2.48 km3. Useful volume of the reservoir is 0.28 km3. Facilities of Kanivska HPS comprise the building of HPS, with 24 aggregated spillways, left-bank and right-bank earth-fill dams and navigation facilities. Total extent of waterfront of hydro facilities of Kanivska HPS is 16.7 km, their throughput amounts to 19300 m3 of water per second under design pressure of 7.2 m.
At Kanivska HPS there installed 24 horizontal capsular hydropower units with total installed capacity of 444 MW. Unit capacity of hydropower units of Kanivska HPS amounts to 18.5 MW. Hydropower units equipped with horizontal capsular Kaplan turbines with unit capacity of 19.2 MW produced by Turboatom JSC (Kharkiv, Ukraine) and with generators with unit capacity of 18.5 MW and voltage of 15 kV produced by Elektrovazhmash (Kharkiv, Ukraine). The building of Kanivska HPS consists of the six aggregated units by four hydropower units in each one and of the two switch-gears with voltage of 110 and 330 kV. Electric circuit designed on the basis of the two stiff units with a step-up transformer with voltage of 80 MVÀ and a switch from the voltage of 110 kV installed on each unit (similar to Kyivska HPS). Average annual electricity output of the station amounts to 972 mln kWh under operation pressure of 7.4 - 11 m. Staff of Kanivska HPS totaled to 266 persons as on January 1, 2001. Currently, reconstruction of basic and auxiliary equipment at Kanivska HPS according to the partly financed by the World Bank Project of rehabilitation of hydropower stations owned by Dniprohidroenergo is underway. The new push to development of Kanivska HPS and increase of its operation efficiency can be provided by construction completion and putting into operation of Kanivska HPSS. Feasibility study of the construction of Kanivska HPSS confirms necessity and expedience of implementing the project to maintain operation of the Interconnected Power System of Ukraine. |
