Kahovska HPS is the final 6th stage of the cascade of HPSs located on the river of Dnieper. Facilities of Kahovska HPS have been under operation since 1955 when the first hydropower unit of the station came into service. The last 6th hydropower unit of Kahovska HPS became operational in 1956. The reservoir of Kahovska HPS is of stream lake kind with annual regulation. Area of watertable of the reservoir is 2155 km2. Total volume of the reservoir - 18.18 km3. Useful volume of the reservoir is 6.78 km3. Facilities of Kahovska HPS comprise the building of HPS, adjoining to the building concrete spillway dam with 28 spillways, lock and earth-fill dams. Total extent of waterfront of hydro facilities of Kahovska HPS is 3.8 km, their throughput amounts to 21400 m3 of water per second. The building of Kahovska HPS is of integrated type with bottom discharges.
At Kahovska HPS there installed 6 vertical hydropower units with total installed capacity of 351 MW. Hydropower units of Kahovska HPS equipped with turbines of propeller type produced by Turboatom JSC (Kharkov, Ukraine). Generators are of synchronous type with voltage of 13.8 kV produced by Elektrovazhmash (Kharkiv, Ukraine). Electric circuit consists of six generator-transformer aggregates, each of which connected by two buses to indoor switch-gear with voltage of 154 kV. Average annual electricity output of Kahovska HPS amounts to 1489 mln kWh. Staff of Kahovska HPS totaled to 173 persons as on January 1, 2001. Currently, reconstruction of basic and auxiliary equipment at Kahovska HPS according to the partly financed by the World Bank Project of rehabilitation of hydropower stations owned by Dniprogidroenego is underway. |
