General Information about Dniprogidroenergo

State Joint Stock Hydro Power Generating Company (SJSHPGC) Dniprogidroenergo is the legal successor of the State Enterprise (SE) "Dniprogidroenergo".

Dniprogidroenergo SE was established in December 1, 1994 according the Decree of the Ministry of Power of Ukraine as of December 27, 1994 #288 on the basis of the Cascade of the Middle Dnieper HPSs, Kremenchutska HPS, Dniprodzerzhinska HPS, Dnipovska HPS and Kahovska HPS that were reorganized into its structural departments.

According to the Decree of the Ministry of Power of Ukraine as of July 7, 1995 # 120 on the basis of Dniprogidroenergo there was established Dniprogidroenergo SJSHPGC. Currently 100% stake of shares of Dniprogidroenergo is fixed as the state ownership.

According to the Decree of the Ministry of Power of Ukraine as of October 7, 1997 #24 "On changes in the organizational structure of Dniprogidroenergo SJSHPGC the Cascade of the Middle Dnieper HPSs was reorganized into the following structural divisions of Dniprogidroenergo:

  • the Cascade of Kyiv HPS and HPSS;
  • Kanivska HPS.

Therefore, currently Dniprogidroenergo according to its bylaw has the following structural divisions (in parenthesis there indicated the dates of putting into operation of corresponding hydro power stations):

Total installed capacity of HPSs of Dniprogidroenergo amounts to 3906,9 MW. Total average electricity output of the company amounts to 9,8 bln kWh.

Dniprogidroenergo is the main power generating company which carries the peak load, controls frequency and power, is the reliable emergency reserve in the Interconnected Power System of Ukraine.

The company is unique due to construction peculiarities and lay-out diagrams of its hydro power units, due to stuff and construction of its equipment. There are traditional HPSs with vertical hydro power units operating under high (Dniprovska HPS) and low (Dniprodzerzhinska HPS) pressure. HPS with indoor switch-gear (Kahovska HPS), HPSs with buildings without machine room (Kremenchutska HPS and Dniprodzerzhinska HPS), HPSs without spillway dams, with the building combined with spillway (Kyivska HPS and Kanivska HPS).

At HPSs there installed vertical hydro power units equipped with Francis, Kaplan turbines, propeller-type wheel, horizontal & capsular and combined pump & turbine hydro power units.

Dniprogidroenergo performs cooperation with hydro power generating companies and manufacturers of power generating equipment from CIS countries, Canada, Vietnam, Poland, Romania, Yugoslavia, Switzerland, France, Norway, Japan and other countries.

During many years hydro power units located on the river of Dnieper is the firing ground for introduction of modern progressive design, technological and production decisions, the base for testing new equipment and new operational modes.

In Dniprogidroenergo there are employed 1850 persons, in particular, 570 white collar staff, that have great experience of construction and operation of hydro power stations.

Management of the company are skillful professionals of hydro power branch.

Since 1996 Dniproenergo according to the Project of rehabilitation of hydro power stations owned by Dniprogidroenergo partly financed by the World Bank has been implementing measures aimed at reconstruction of all hydro power stations of the company that will provide their more improved technical and economical performance and their more reliable operation. On the base of Dniprogidroenergo is being implemented the Project of Construction of Kanivska HPSS that has great importance as it can provide more reliable and efficient operation of the Interconnected Power System of Ukraine.
